ARMAN ARIAN

Arman Arian (Persian: آرمان آرین; born 1 September 1981) is an Iranian author, novelist, and researcher with more than forty published books in epic fantasy, young adult literature, and cultural studies. He is best known for his first trilogy, The Persians and I, which became the best-selling novel of the 19th Tehran International Book Fair in 2006. His acclaimed pentalogy Patash Khowargar further established him as a pioneering voice in contemporary Persian literature.
Arian is the youngest recipient of The Book of the Year of Iran award and has been honored with many national and international recognitions, including the Honorary Diploma of the IBBY World Congress in Copenhagen (2008) and a place on the 2024 IBBY Honour List. In 2026, he was nominated for the Astrid Lindgren Memorial Award (ALMA), one of the world’s most prestigious prizes in children’s literature.
Although celebrated as a fantasy writer for children and young adults, Arian’s readership extends across all age groups. His works draw on a deep academic background in cinema studies and a profound knowledge of myth, religion, and history. “We need to look back to our cultural heritage to survive in the intricate modern life,” he has remarked, capturing the spirit of his literary vision: reviving ancient narratives while speaking to the challenges and hopes of today.

WRITING

Arman Arian is a pioneering voice in contemporary Iranian literature, known for crafting bold, imaginative novels that bridge myth and modernity. His works rebel against the “ancient prose,” deconstructing and reinterpreting sacred texts and historical narratives to speak powerfully to today’s youth. With a deep knowledge of Iran’s cultural heritage-from the Avesta and the Shahnameh to lesser-known sources-Arian creates original epic fantasies rooted in Iranian identity yet universal in scope. Whether through his bestselling debut, The Persians and I, his mytho-historical epic Patash-Khowargar, or the mystical allegory Ashvazdangeh, Arian invites readers into richly layered worlds that honor the past while envisioning a vibrant, imaginative future.

DRAMATIC WORKS

Alongside his literary achievements, Arman Arian has pursued dramatic storytelling as a filmmaker, screenwriter, and creator of narratives for computer and video games. Drawing on his academic training in cinema and his deep knowledge of myth and history, he brings the same imaginative vision that marks his novels to the screen and interactive media, crafting stories that engage audiences across diverse platforms. His dramatic works reflect a commitment to reimagining Persian cultural heritage in forms that resonate with contemporary global audiences.

TINTIN

Among Arman Arian’s most ambitious projects is a planned 2,000-page trilogy in Persian that expands the world of Hergé’s Tintin in a modern context. The first volume has been completed and translated into English, the second is written and currently being translated, and the third is still in progress. Arian has not yet reached an agreement with the Hergé Foundation, the rights holders of Tintin, for the publication of the trilogy, and this matter remains under consideration.
